Donoor in Italy: the essentials

Associations based in Italy (APS, ODV, sports clubs, cultural and religious associations, foundations) use Donoor with no subscription and no commission. A donation to an association registered in the Third Sector register (RUNTS) gives a 30% tax reduction (35% for an ODV), or alternatively a deduction of up to 10% of income.

What Donoor gives your association

0% commission

No Donoor subscription or commission. Only Stripe's fees apply, and your donors can choose to cover them.

The money goes to your association

Donations arrive in your association's Stripe account, then in its bank account. Donoor never holds the funds.

Everything in one place

Fundraisers, payment links, ticketing, memberships with a member card, a shop and monthly donations, on the web and in the app.

Donation receipts, with no manual work

If your association is registered in the RUNTS, switch the service on: Donoor issues the ricevuta for each donation in your name and sends it to the donor.

  • In Italian, in your association's name, with its codice fiscale, its RUNTS section and number, and the words “erogazione liberale”.
  • The annual file for the pre-filled tax return, ready for your association, its accountant or a CAF to send to the Agenzia delle Entrate before 16 March.
  • Tickets, membership fees and purchases are excluded automatically: only donations get a ricevuta.
  • Registration checked every day in the register: if your association is removed from the RUNTS, the receipts stop.

Frequently asked questions

Is Donoor available to Italian associations?

Yes. Associations based in Italy (APS, ODV, sports clubs, cultural and religious associations, foundations) create their account, accept donations by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, SEPA Direct Debit or Satispay, and send donation receipts. The website, the app and the receipts are available in Italian.

How much does Donoor cost an association?

Nothing: €0 subscription and 0% Donoor commission. Only Stripe's fees apply, for example €0.35 for a donation by SEPA Direct Debit, and your donors can choose to cover them.

Is a donation to an association tax-deductible in Italy?

Yes, if the association is registered in the national Third Sector register (RUNTS) on the date of the donation. The donor gets a tax reduction of 30% of their donations (35% for an ODV), up to €30,000 a year, or, if they prefer, a deduction of up to 10% of their income (art. 83 of D.Lgs. 117/2017). The payment must be traceable: card, transfer or direct debit, never cash. A €100 donation can therefore cost them only €70.

Is an official receipt required?

There is no official template in Italy. The donor keeps proof of payment, or a receipt from the association showing their name, the payment method and that it is a donation with nothing in return. Donoor sends this receipt (ricevuta) as a PDF, in Italian, after each donation, in the association's name.

What does my association need to provide to switch receipts on?

Its codice fiscale, which Donoor finds in the RUNTS together with its section, number and registration date, then the signature of a mandate authorising Donoor to issue receipts in its name. No documents to send: registration in the register is checked automatically.

What is the pre-filled tax return?

Each year, the association can send the Italian tax authority the total donations of each donor who gave it their codice fiscale: those donations then appear in the donor's pre-filled tax return. Donoor prepares this file in the official format; the association, its accountant or a CAF sends it to the Agenzia delle Entrate before 16 March. Above €220,000 of income, sending it is mandatory.

Can a religious association (mosque, church, synagogue…) send donation receipts?

Yes, if it is registered in the RUNTS, usually as a social promotion association (APS): its donors are then entitled to the 30% tax reduction. Outside the RUNTS, Donoor cannot send any receipt that gives a tax benefit; the association collects donations with Donoor in the same way: QR codes, fundraisers, SEPA Direct Debit and Tap to Pay.

Does Donoor send a receipt for membership fees and tickets?

No. Donoor only issues a ricevuta for donations with nothing in return: never for a ticket, a membership fee or a purchase; only a donation added to an order gets one.

Who is responsible for the receipts?

Your association: Donoor issues the receipts in its name, with the information from the register. An incorrect receipt makes the donor lose the tax benefit, and misusing the ETS, APS or ODV labels is penalised: that is why receipts stop as soon as the association is no longer registered in the RUNTS.

How do I register my association?

Create your association's account on Donoor and enter its codice fiscale (11 digits): Donoor finds it in the RUNTS, otherwise the team checks the number. Then connect Stripe to receive payments. PayPal is not yet available in Italy.
