Donoor in Portugal: the essentials

Associations established in Portugal (sports clubs, cultural, social or parents' associations, IPSS, religious entities) use Donoor with no subscription or commission. A donation to an association with a recognised status (IPSS, public utility, religious entity, sporting public utility, culture…) gives a tax reduction of 25% of the donation (32.5% for a religious entity).

What Donoor brings to your association

0% commission

No subscription or Donoor commission. Only Stripe's fees apply, and your donors can choose to cover them.

The money goes to your association

Donations arrive in your association's Stripe account, then in its bank account. Donoor never holds the funds.

Everything in one place

Fundraisers, payment links, ticketing, memberships with member cards, shop and monthly donations, on the web and in the app.

Donation receipts, with no manual work

If your association has a recognised status, turn on the service: Donoor issues a receipt for each donation in its name and sends it to the donor.

  • In Portuguese, in your association's name, with its NIPC, its status, the legal framework and the words "sem contrapartidas".
  • Every year, the Modelo 25 list (donor's NIF, donation code, amount), for your association to copy onto the Portal das Finanças before the end of February.
  • A donor who wants their donation declared to the tax authority gives their NIF: without it, the donation is not in the Modelo 25.
  • Tickets and purchases excluded automatically: only donations receive a receipt.

Frequently asked questions

Is Donoor available to Portuguese associations?

Yes. Associations established in Portugal (sports clubs, cultural, social or parents' associations, IPSS, religious entities) create their account, receive donations by MB WAY, card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or SEPA Direct Debit, and send donation receipts when they are entitled to. The website and the receipts are available in Portuguese.

How much does Donoor cost an association?

Nothing: €0 subscription and 0% Donoor commission. Only Stripe's fees apply, for example 1.5% + €0.25 for an MB WAY donation, and your donors can choose to cover them.

Is a donation to an association tax-deductible in Portugal?

Yes, if it goes to an association with a recognised status: IPSS, public utility, social solidarity cooperative, NGDO, environmental NGO, sporting public utility, cultural or scientific entity, recognised school, or religious entity. The donor deducts 25% of the donation from their tax (32.5% for a religious entity, whose donations count for 130%), up to 15% of their tax (article 63 of the Tax Benefits Statute). A €100 donation may therefore cost them only €75.

What must the donation receipt contain?

The association's legal status, the legal framework of that status, a statement that the donation is made with no consideration ("sem contrapartidas") and its amount (article 66 of the Tax Benefits Statute). Donoor adds the donor's name and NIF if they gave it, and sends it as a PDF, in Portuguese, in the association's name.

What is the Modelo 25?

It is the annual return of donations received, which the association files on the Portal das Finanças before the end of February: one line per donor, with their NIF, the donation code and the amount. Donoor prepares the list; the association copies it into its return itself.

Can a religious association (mosque, church, synagogue…) send donation receipts?

Yes, if it is a religious entity: a church, a religious community or an institution it founded. Its donations count for 130%: the donor deducts 32.5% of the donation. A cultural association linked to a place of worship may also qualify if it has a recognised status (public utility, for example). Otherwise, the association collects donations with Donoor in the same way, without receipts.

Why would a donor give their NIF?

It is optional. Without a NIF, the association cannot include the donation in the Modelo 25: anonymous donations do not count for tax purposes. The donor enters it in their donor area if they want the donation declared.

What does my association need to provide to turn on receipts?

The code of its donations in the Modelo 25 (01 religious, 06 social, 22 cultural, 25 sport…) and proof of its status: IPSS registration with Segurança Social, public utility despacho, registration in the register of religious legal persons, or sporting public utility status. The Donoor team checks these, then the association signs a mandate allowing Donoor to issue receipts in its name.

How do MB WAY and Multibanco work?

MB WAY is on by default: the donor enters their phone number and approves the payment in the MB WAY app (1.5% + €0.25 at Stripe). Multibanco gives a reference to pay within 7 days in online banking or at a cash machine (2.95% + €0.25): your association can turn it on in its settings, for donations only.

How do I register my association?

Create your association's account on Donoor and type its name or NIPC: Donoor finds it in the tax authority's official list of entities eligible for the IRS consignação (over 5,500 associations, IPSS and religious entities), and the NIPC is verified straight away. Otherwise, enter it and the Donoor team checks it. Finally, connect Stripe to receive payments. PayPal is not yet available in Portugal.
