Donations and tax in Lithuania, explained

In Lithuania, a donation does not reduce an individual's tax. A person who pays income tax can, however, have up to 1.2% of their tax paid to an association that is a support recipient registered as an NGO, at no extra cost.

  • The "1.2% of income tax" is requested online from the tax authority (VMI) before 1 May, with the association's name and 9-digit code; the request can apply for up to 5 years. In 2026, 564,000 residents allocated 40.1 million euros this way to more than 16,000 recipients.
  • If your association qualifies according to the register (support recipient status and NGO status), Donoor shows it on its public page and donation pages, with its code to copy. Religious communities qualify from 2027.
  • A company deducts twice the amount of its support from its taxable income, up to 40%. Donoor does not issue tax receipts in Lithuania.
  • Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Revolut Pay: your donors pay the way they are used to.

Frequently asked questions

Is Donoor available to Lithuanian associations?

Yes. Any association established in Lithuania (asociacija, charity and support fund, public institution (VšĮ), religious community) creates its account, receives donations in euros by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Revolut Pay, and uses fundraisers, QR codes, ticketing and memberships: sports clubs, village communities, choirs, scouts, social associations… The website and the app are available in English.

How much does Donoor cost an association?

Nothing: €0 subscription and 0% Donoor commission. Only Stripe's fees apply, for example 1.5% + €0.25 for a donation by European card, and your donors can choose to cover them.

How does Donoor verify my association?

By its legal entity code (juridinio asmens kodas), 9 digits — not the VAT code "LT…". Donoor finds your association by its name or code in the Register of Legal Entities (Registrų centras), copied every month, and verifies it straight away. An association registered less than two months ago, or a public institution (VšĮ) without NGO status, is checked by the Donoor team.

Which payment methods can my donors use?

Bank card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link and Revolut Pay. SEPA Direct Debit can be switched on in your settings. Payment through Lithuanian online banking is not offered. Tap to Pay, contactless payment with a phone, is in beta with Stripe in Lithuania.

Can my donors deduct their donations from their taxes?

No: in Lithuania, a donation does not reduce an individual's tax. But a person who pays income tax can have up to 1.2% of their tax paid to an association that is a support recipient registered as an NGO, at no extra cost. A company deducts twice the amount of its support from its taxable income, up to 40%.

What is the "1.2% of income tax"?

Every resident who pays income tax in Lithuania can ask the tax authority (VMI) to pay up to 1.2% of the tax they have already paid to one or more recipients: online, before 1 May, with each recipient's name and code, for 1 to 5 years. Support recipients (paramos gavėjas) registered as NGOs in the register qualify, and religious communities too from 2027. If your association qualifies, Donoor shows it on its page with its code.

Does Donoor issue tax receipts in Lithuania?

No: Lithuanian law gives no tax relief for an individual's donation, so there is no tax receipt. The donor receives the confirmation e-mail of their donation, which serves as proof of payment. Donoor sends nothing to the tax authority.

Can I sell tickets and shop items?

Yes, ticketing and the shop stay open, and an online sale is not an on-site sale. Please note: in Lithuania, a sale paid on site (in cash or by card, so also with Tap to Pay) normally has to go through a cash register registered with the tax authority, except during a sports, cultural or leisure event. Donoor does not produce these receipts: for an on-site sale outside an event, use your own cash register. Donations are not sales.

Where does the donation money go?

To your association's Stripe account, then to its bank account, in euros. Donoor never holds the funds.

Can a religious association (parish, church, mosque…) use Donoor?

Yes, like any association: donations by card, Revolut Pay and QR codes. Religious communities and their parishes listed in the register are found by their code and verified straight away. Those with support recipient status can receive the "1.2% of income tax" from 2027, and already now if they are also registered as an NGO.
