Donations and tax in Slovenia, explained

In Slovenia, a donation does not reduce an individual's tax. However, a person who pays income tax can give up to 1% of their tax to the associations on the official list, at no extra cost.

  • The “1% of income tax” (namenitev dela dohodnine) is requested on eDavki with the association's tax number; a request received before 31 December counts for that year, then every year until it is changed.
  • If your association is on the official list, Donoor shows it on its public page and donation pages, with its tax number to copy.
  • A company can deduct donations for purposes of general interest up to 1% of its taxable turnover. Donoor does not issue tax receipts in Slovenia.
  • Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal: your donors pay the way they are used to.

Frequently asked questions

Is Donoor available to Slovenian associations?

Yes. Any association established in Slovenia (društvo, federation, private institute, foundation, religious community) creates its account, accepts donations in euros by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal, and uses fundraisers, QR codes, ticketing and memberships: sports clubs, cultural societies, volunteer fire brigades, choirs, social associations… The website and the app are available in English.

How much does Donoor cost an association?

Nothing: €0 subscription and 0% Donoor commission. Only Stripe's fees apply, for example 1.5% + €0.25 for a donation by European card, and your donors can choose to cover them.

How does Donoor verify my association?

By its 10-digit matična številka (the first 7 digits are enough). Donoor finds your association by its name, matična or tax number in the official register of entities of Slovenia (AJPES) and in the tax authority's list, and verifies it at once; its tax number is shown next to it. An association that is not in the register, or a public institution such as a school, is checked by the Donoor team.

Which payment methods can my donors use?

Bank card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link and PayPal. Revolut Pay and SEPA Direct Debit can be switched on in your settings. Tap to Pay, contactless payment with a phone, is in beta at Stripe in Slovenia.

Can my donors deduct their donations from their taxes?

No: in Slovenia, a donation does not reduce an individual's tax. But a person who pays income tax can give up to 1% of their tax to an association on the official list, at no extra cost, by requesting it on eDavki with the association's tax number. A company can deduct its donations up to 1% of its taxable turnover.

What is the “1% of income tax”?

Every year, the government sets the list of beneficiaries (in particular associations recognised as being in the public interest and religious communities). A taxpayer can allocate up to 1% of their income tax to them, on eDavki or at the tax office: the request counts if it is received before 31 December and applies until they change it. If your association is on the list, Donoor shows it on its page with its tax number.

Does Donoor issue tax receipts in Slovenia?

No: Slovenian law provides for no tax receipt for an individual's donation. Donors receive the confirmation email of their donation, which serves as proof of payment. Donoor files nothing with the tax office.

Can I sell tickets and items in a shop?

Yes, ticketing and the shop stay open. Note: in Slovenia, a sale paid by card counts as a cash sale and requires an invoice confirmed by the tax authority (fiscal cash register), which Donoor does not issue. A small association that is not VAT-registered and sells little may be exempt: check your situation with your accountant or FURS before opening sales. Donations are not sales.

Where does the donation money go?

To your association's Stripe account, then to its bank account (TRR), in euros. With PayPal, to its PayPal account. Donoor never holds the funds.

Can a religious association (parish, mosque, church…) use Donoor?

Yes, like any association: donations by card, PayPal and QR codes. Religious communities and their parishes listed in the register are found by their matična and verified at once. Many are also on the “1% of income tax” list.

Association data: Poslovni register Slovenije of AJPES and Seznam davčnih zavezancev of the Financial Administration (FURS), published on podatki.gov.si under the CC BY 4.0 licence; list of beneficiaries of the 1% of income tax published by FURS. Data extracted and formatted by Donoor.
