How do I make a donation to an association on Donoor?
Open the association's donation page by scanning its QR code or clicking its payment link, choose an amount, then pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal. You receive your confirmation by email straight away, along with your tax receipt if the association issues one. No account is needed to give.
Finding the donation page
There are three ways to get there, all of which lead to the same page:
- By scanning the association's QR code with your phone's camera, displayed on a stand, a poster or a screen.
- By clicking its payment link, shared via WhatsApp, on social media, by email or on its website.
- By visiting the association's page on Donoor, where its presentation and current fundraising campaigns are listed.
Making your donation step by step
- Choose one of the suggested amounts, or click Other amount to enter your own (minimum £1).
- Choose One-time donation or Recurring: a monthly frequency is suggested by default, with the option to choose weekly or annual.
- The Cover fees box is ticked by default: if you leave it ticked, the association receives the full amount of your donation, with the payment provider's fees remaining your responsibility. You can also untick it; see can donors cover the fees? for the details.
- If you wish, adjust your support for Donoor: this amount, which you can change and which can be reduced to £0, funds the platform's free service for associations and is never visible to the association you are supporting.
- Choose your payment method from those the association offers: card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal.
- Enter your full name and your email address: the email is used to send you your confirmation and, where applicable, your tax receipt. An optional message can accompany your donation, and the Make an anonymous donation box hides your name on the campaign's public page.
- Confirm the payment. By paying, you accept the Donoor terms of use, which are noted at the bottom of the page: there is no separate box to tick.
Good to know: giving requires neither an account nor a password. If you want to look back over your donation history later, an optional donor area is available with one click from your confirmation email; see create, find and edit my donor account.
Which payment methods are accepted for a donation?
This depends on what the association has connected, but you will most often find:
| Payment method | What you should know |
|---|---|
| Card | Visa, Mastercard, American Express; even without a PayPal account, a Pay by card without an account button sometimes allows you to pay by card via PayPal |
| Apple Pay | Payment confirmed in one tap from an iPhone |
| Google Pay | Payment confirmed in one tap from an Android phone |
| PayPal | By logging in to your PayPal account |
On site, at an event, some associations also take your donation by contactless card directly on their phone, using Tap to Pay: you then hold your card, phone or watch against theirs, without scanning anything yourself. The details of the payment methods on the association's side are in which payment methods are accepted.
What do you receive after donating?
A Thank you for your donation! page summarises your payment, and a confirmation email arrives straight away. If the association issues tax receipts through Donoor, your receipt follows by email; see how to get my tax receipt if you don't receive it. Otherwise, the confirmation email remains your only proof. You can also access your donor area from this email to find your donations and receipts.
Important: an anonymous donation hides your name from other visitors to the page, but your email remains necessary to receive your confirmation and any tax receipt: the association will never see this address publicly linked to your donation.
Changing or stopping a monthly donation
A recurring donation is collected automatically at each due date until you stop it yourself, from your donor area. The full details, including how to change your card, are in make, change or stop a monthly donation. If you chose the wrong amount or association, read how to get a refund for a donation.
