Which payment methods are accepted?
Your donors can pay by card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal: what appears depends on what your association has connected in Settings › Fundraising process. On site, Tap to Pay takes a contactless card directly on a phone, with no terminal to buy.
None of these methods adds a Donoor commission: only the payment provider's fees apply, and your donors can choose to cover them so that you receive the full amount of the donation.
Online payment methods
From Settings › Fundraising process, you connect Stripe, PayPal, or both. This choice determines what your donors see on your donation page, your payment link and your QR codes.
- Card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express): offered as soon as Stripe or PayPal is connected.
- Apple Pay and Google Pay: grouped into a single button if Stripe handles your payments; offered separately by PayPal once its account is approved to manage them.
- PayPal: its button appears as soon as a PayPal Business account is connected, even if Stripe is also active.
| Payment method | What needs to be connected | What the donor does |
|---|---|---|
| Card | Stripe or PayPal | Enters their card number on your donation page |
| Apple Pay / Google Pay | Stripe, or PayPal once its account is approved to manage them | Confirms in one tap from their phone |
| PayPal | A connected PayPal Business account | Logs into their PayPal account, or pays by card without creating one |
| Tap to Pay | An active Stripe account and the Donoor app | Holds their card, phone or watch against a volunteer's phone |
Stripe, PayPal or both?
Either one is enough to collect donations. If you activate both, you choose which one is featured on your pages: the other remains offered to your donors as an alternative. Details of both connections are explained in the Connecting Stripe training and its PayPal module.
Paying by card without a PayPal account
If your association has only connected PayPal, and PayPal has not yet enabled the integrated card option for that account, the donor can still pay by card: by clicking the PayPal button, then choosing Pay by card without an account, they complete their donation without ever opening a PayPal account.
Do donors need to create an account?
No. The donor scans a QR code, opens your payment link or your donation page, chooses an amount and pays: no account or password is needed, and they receive their confirmation by email within moments. If they want to find their donation history and tax receipts, an optional donor area exists, accessible with one click from that confirmation email.
Good to know: the fewer steps your donor has to take, the more likely they are to complete the payment. This is why no account creation is required before giving.
Recurring donations
The monthly donation is offered by default on your donation pages; the donor can also choose a weekly or annual frequency. Payment is taken automatically by card at each due date, and the donor can stop it themselves at any time from their donor area, without you having to intervene. The details are in monthly donation: setting up, changing or stopping.
Face-to-face collection with Tap to Pay
For a donation handed over in person, during a collection, at a stall or at a fair, Tap to Pay turns a volunteer's phone into a contactless payment terminal, on both iPhone and Android. Online payment methods (QR code, payment link, donation page) are for a donor paying alone, from their own phone: the two approaches can be combined. All the details are in What is Tap to Pay for associations?
Important: never display a fee rate in your own communications: Donoor charges no commission, only the payment provider's fees apply, and the exact amount of each donation (what the donor paid, the fees, what you receive) is visible donation by donation in Fundraising › Donations. See transaction fees and donors covering the fees.
