How do payment links work?

A payment link is your association's permanent donation page: a unique address, for example donoor.org/pay/votre-association, ready as soon as you sign up and to share anywhere, via WhatsApp, by text message, by email, on your social media or on your website. The donor opens it, chooses an amount and pays in a few clicks, without creating an account.

This article explains where to find and customise your link, where to set the fundraising goal and options, how to share it on each channel, and then how to track the donations received.

Your payment link is created automatically: you have nothing to activate.

  1. On the home page of your dashboard, open the Your payment link card.
  2. Click Edit (or Set up the first time). The settings open on the left and the Live preview of your page on the right: every change appears there straight away, on Mobile as well as Desktop.
  3. Choose the address of your page: lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens only, between 3 and 30 characters.
  4. Click Save to publish your changes.

Tip: choose your address before sharing your link. Once it has been shared, keep it: changing it would break the links already sent to your donors.

Customising the content and appearance of your page

Can I customise my payment links?

Yes, every element is set in the editor for your link. Under Customisation, add a banner (5 MB maximum), a title and a description that explain your project. Choose up to 6 Suggested amounts (€) and click one of them to make it the default amount. The Impact amounts, up to 4, show concretely what each donation makes possible, for example "£25, a food parcel", with an image if you wish.

Under Appearance, choose your Primary colour and your Background colour, taken from your logo, the Button style (Rounded, Pill or Square) and the Payment button text. By default, this text is Donate for a one-off donation and Subscribe for a recurring donation.

Setting a goal and adjusting the options

Under Fundraising goal, enter the Target amount and turn on Show progress bar to show how far you have come: this goal is optional.

Under Options, three settings deserve your attention:

  • Recurring donations, on by default, lets your donors subscribe to a monthly, weekly or annual donation. See how recurring donations work.
  • The "Cover the fees" option displays, at the time of payment, the box Cover {provider} fees: around 4 donors in 5 tick it, and your association then receives the full amount of the donation.
  • Tax deduction displays a banner announcing the tax reduction, once your association's tax receipt service has been activated.

Finally, choose the information requested from the donor: full name, email and message. Keep the email enabled, as it is essential for sending a payment confirmation and, where applicable, a tax receipt.

How do I collect donations via WhatsApp or text message?

From the Your payment link card, copy your link in one click or use Share on WhatsApp, Share on Facebook or Copy for Instagram directly. For WhatsApp or a text message, simply paste the link into your message, together with a short appeal for donations: the donor clicks, chooses their amount and pays directly from their phone, without installing anything. It is often the quickest way to mobilise your association's members.

ChannelHow to use it
WhatsAppPaste the link into a message or into your association's group, with a sentence explaining your need.
Text messageOne sentence, one goal, your link: useful for members who read neither emails nor social media.
EmailAdd the link to your newsletter or annual report, with a clear button leading to the donation page.
Social mediaPut the link in your bio on Instagram or post it on Facebook and LinkedIn.

Good to know: your payment links, QR codes and fundraising pages are free and unlimited in number for QR codes and fundraising pages. Each association, however, has just one permanent payment link, which you customise as you wish.

Adding the donation to your website

On the Your payment link card, click Embed to display your donation page directly on your website, without the visitor having to leave it.

FormatWhat it does
EmbeddedAppears directly within the page, wherever you place it.
Pop-upOpens in a window when a button is clicked.
FloatingStays visible and follows the visitor as they scroll down the page.

Choose the width and the elements displayed, then enter your site's address under Allowed domains: the widget only appears on the sites you add there. Next, choose your platform (HTML, WordPress, Wix, Shopify, Webflow or Squarespace) and follow the guide provided to copy the code to paste onto your site.

What your donor sees, and how to track your donations

The donor chooses an amount, decides on a one-off or recurring donation, can leave a message and pay in one tap with Apple Pay, Google Pay, by bank card or with PayPal. They immediately receive a confirmation by email, along with their tax receipt if your association issues one.

To track these donations, open Fundraising › Donations in your dashboard: filter by status, by type (Recurring or One-off) or by source, and click a row to see the details of a donation. A recurring donation can be stopped there with Cancel the subscription. Click Export to download your donations as Excel, CSV or PDF, and open Fundraising › Donors to find each donor with their history.

To go further: payment link, QR code or donation page, which to use, when you receive the donations and how tax receipts work.
