How do I create an online fundraiser for an association?

To create an online fundraiser, open your Donoor dashboard, click Fundraisers then New fundraiser: in four short steps, your collection page is ready, with a goal, photos and a link to share with your community.

A fundraiser supports a specific project of your association (works, equipment, a trip, emergency aid…), with its own progress gauge, separate from your association's permanent personalised donation page. You can create as many as you have projects.

Create your fundraiser in four steps

  1. In the menu, click Fundraisers, then New fundraiser.
  2. Information step: enter a Fundraiser title, check the public address suggested (in the format donoor.org/c/…) and write a Description: the need, the beneficiaries, what the donations will be used for.
  3. Gallery step, optional: add a main image in landscape format and up to 10 photos.
  4. Content step, optional: choose a theme, add a YouTube video and a message from the association if you wish.
  5. Settings step: switch on Set a goal if you have one, add an End date if needed, then click Create the fundraiser.

The fundraiser is then created as a draft: its page is not yet visible to the public (see below). For a step-by-step video, follow the training Create your fundraiser.

Good to know: if your association issues tax receipts, the Tax-deductible option is switched on automatically when you create the fundraiser: the page then states that the donation is tax-deductible.

Can I run a fundraiser without a goal amount?

Yes. A goal is optional: you can leave a fundraiser open, with no target amount and no end date, and collect for as long as needed. This is useful for an ongoing appeal, for example an emergency fund. With no goal set, the public page displays no progress bar.

You can switch on Set a goal at any time from the fundraiser's Settings, even after it has been created: the progress bar then appears automatically on the page.

Can I create several fundraisers for different projects?

Yes, you can create as many fundraisers as you have projects. Each fundraiser has its own address, its own progress gauge and its own sharing link, completely independent of the others. To save time rather than re-entering everything, duplicate an existing fundraiser with Duplicate, from the menu in the Fundraisers list.

Make your fundraiser live, pause it or end it

A newly created fundraiser stays in draft: its page shows "Fundraiser being prepared" and nobody can donate yet. From the fundraiser's page or the menu in the Fundraisers list, you can change its status at any time.

StatusWhat your donors see
Draft"Fundraiser being prepared": nobody can donate yet
Live (button Make it live)The page is public and accepts donations
Paused (button Pause)The page remains visible, "Fundraiser paused", but no longer accepts donations
Ended (button End the fundraiser)"Fundraiser ended"; donations already received remain with the association

An ended fundraiser can be reopened at any time with Reopen the fundraiser. If you have set an End date, the fundraiser ends by itself at midnight on that day, without any action on your part.

Tip: after closing, publish a final update on the fundraiser with the result and photos: it is the right moment to thank your donors.

How do I receive the money from my fundraiser?

There is nothing to request or unlock: donations to a fundraiser follow the same route as all your association's donations, directly to its Stripe or PayPal account. Donoor never holds these funds. With Stripe, each donation is then transferred automatically to your bank account about 7 days after payment; with PayPal, the money stays in your PayPal balance until you transfer it yourself or set up automatic transfers. For full details of timings and tracking your payouts, read When do I receive donations?

As for all your donations, no Donoor commission is charged on donations received through a fundraiser (see Is Donoor really free?).

Key takeaways

  • Creating a fundraiser takes four steps: Information, Gallery, Content and Settings.
  • The goal and the end date are optional, and can be changed at any time from Settings.
  • You can create and duplicate as many fundraisers as you have projects.
  • A fundraiser moves through the draft, live, paused and ended statuses, and can be reopened at any time.
  • Donations go directly to the association's Stripe or PayPal account, never to a Donoor account. Once your fundraiser is live, spread the word to raise more donations.
