How do you create and use donation QR codes?

You create a donation QR code from your dashboard: give it a name and a location, customise its colours and logo if you wish, then download it to print or display. The donor only has to point their phone's camera at it: the donation page opens straight in their browser, with no app to install.

Having one QR code per location, per medium or per event then lets you compare, using the scan statistics, which one raises the most.

Creating your first QR code

  1. In the menu, click QR codes, then click New QR code.
  2. Give it a QR code name (for example "Main entrance" or "Reception desk") and, if you wish, a Location and a Custom message shown to donors on the payment page.
  3. Optionally add a Fundraising goal: a general appeal with no specific target, or a new goal with an amount to reach and a progress bar.
  4. Open Customisation: choose a preset style, or set the colours, the shape of the dots and corners yourself, and add your Logo in the centre (PNG, JPG, GIF or WebP image of 5 MB maximum, in small, medium or large size).
  5. Click Create QR code. On its card, Download gives you a high-resolution image ready to use, and Copy the link copies the address of its donation page.

Changing the name, description or goal afterwards does not change the link encoded in the QR code: your printed posters remain valid, so there is no need to reprint them. A step-by-step video is available in the Create a QR code module of the QR code course.

How many QR codes can you create?

Up to 50 per association. Create a different one for each location (entrance, prayer hall, refreshment area), each medium (poster, flyer, screen) or each cause (building works, food aid, Ramadan collection), then compare their scans and donations in your dashboard: this is the simplest way to find out which locations really bring in money. If you are unsure whether to use a QR code, a payment link or your donation page, compare the three: they work very well together.

What the donor experiences

Does the QR code work without an app?

Yes. The donor opens the native camera app on their phone, points it at the QR code, and lands directly on your donation page in their browser. They pay by one of the accepted payment methods without installing anything, then receive their confirmation by email.

Good to know: if your association issues tax receipts through Donoor, the donor also receives theirs by email after a donation made by QR code, exactly as for a donation made by payment link.

Customising the design of your QR code

In Customisation, you choose the colour of the dots, the background colour, the shape of the dots and corners, and you can add your association's logo in the centre. The Readability indicator shows a contrast ratio and warns you if your colour choices or an oversized logo make the code harder to scan.

Important: an over-customised QR code (colours that are too close, an overly large logo) can become unreadable for some phones. Keep an eye on the readability indicator before printing in large numbers.

Downloading, printing and displaying your QR code

Three formats depending on your use:

UseWhere to find itWhat you get
QR code onlyDownload button on the QR code cardA high-resolution PNG image, ready to paste into a document
Poster or flyerCreate a poster buttonA customisable template, from A6 to A2 or square for social media, to download as PDF (high quality) for the printer or as PNG to share
Hall screenTV display at the bottom of the menuThe QR code in large size with, if you enable it, the amount raised and a progress bar that animates with each donation, to be shown full screen

To create a poster: open Create a poster from the QR code card, choose a template, then the format, edit the texts and colours if needed, and download. To display on a screen: open TV display on the computer connected to your screen, select the QR code to show, adjust the size and the information visible, then switch to full screen. The Posters and Live screen modules of the course explain each setting in video.
