How do I collect donations during Ramadan with Donoor?
During Ramadan, create a Donoor fundraiser for each collection, zakat al-fitr, communal iftar or mosque works, share it by QR code and by payment link, then follow donations in real time from your dashboard. Using Donoor costs the association nothing: only the payment provider's fees apply, as with any donation.
This article stays factual on the technical side. For the religious rules on zakat, zakat al-fitr or sadaqah, including who must pay them, from what amount, when and to whom they are intended, please speak to your imam or your mosque's religious council.
One fundraiser for each Ramadan collection
A Donoor fundraiser lets you collect donations for a specific project, with a numerical target, a progress gauge and a dedicated page. You can create as many as you need: one for zakat al-fitr, one for the communal iftar, one for sadaqah towards mosque works, for example. Each has its own address, its own donors and its own statistics.
- In the menu, click Fundraisers, then New fundraiser.
- Give it a title that clearly identifies the collection, then describe what the donations will be used for.
- Turn on Set a goal if you want to show a progress bar, and add an End date if the collection should stop on a specific date.
- If your association has already activated the tax receipt service, the Tax-deductible option is ticked by default.
- Click Create the fundraiser, then Make it live as soon as it is ready to receive donations.
Tip: if you collected for Ramadan the previous year, open the menu of the old fundraiser and click Duplicate: you start with the same settings, ready to update for this year.
Collecting zakat al-fitr online before Eid
Zakat al-fitr is usually paid before the Eid prayer, as a fixed sum per person in the household. To collect it online, create a separate fundraiser for it and set an End date before Eid: the collection then stops automatically at midnight on that day, giving your association time to distribute the funds before the prayer.
Good to know: the amount of zakat al-fitr, the exact date before which it must be paid and its recipients are governed by religious rules specific to each school and each mosque. Donoor does not set them: ask your imam or your mosque's religious council, then include them in the fundraiser description so your donors know them.
The amount raised and the number of donors appear in real time on the fundraiser page, so you can follow, day by day, how the collection is progressing before the deadline.
Multiplying collection points during the month
At the entrance, during tarawih and at iftar
A QR code displayed at the entrance, on the tables or during tarawih lets every worshipper donate in a few seconds, without change and without interrupting their prayer: they scan the code with their phone's camera, arrive on the donation page and pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
- In the menu, click QR codes, then New QR code.
- Give it a location name, for example the main entrance or the prayer hall, so its statistics can be told apart from the others.
- If needed, add a Fundraising goal with a progress bar, specific to this QR code.
- Download the QR code image, or click Create a poster to print it as a flyer or a large poster.
You can create up to 50 QR codes, one per location or per medium, each with its own scan and donation statistics; the QR codes course details every setting. During large gatherings, the TV display on the dashboard shows a QR code and its progress gauge on a screen, with the amount animating each time a new donation comes in.
Taking a card in person
A volunteer can also take a bank card payment directly on their phone, with no QR code or extra terminal, thanks to Tap to Pay. See what is Tap to Pay for associations.
Tax receipts during Ramadan
If your mosque has activated the tax receipt service on Donoor, each donation made to a Tax-deductible fundraiser automatically generates a receipt sent by email to the donor, provided they have entered their full name and address. Not every mosque is authorised to issue them: the two possible statuses are detailed in can a mosque issue a tax receipt for donations. Zakat follows exactly the same tax rules as any other donation: see how to collect zakat online with Donoor.
